Havana Cigar Exchange - Worldwide Shipping of Cuban Cigars
About this cigar: The Diplomáticos No. 2 is a classic Cuban torpedo that sometimes flies under the radar compared to it’s more-well known siblings like the Montecristo No. 2 and H. Upmann No. 2. The Diplomáticos brand has been around since 1966 and is currently classified by Habanos S.A. as one of their “other” brands, as opposed to their “global” and “value” and “volume” brands, and has a fairly small market share. Diplomáticos are rolled with tobacco from the Vuelta Abajo region.
The original sizes in 1966 included the No. 1 through No. 5 with two additional sizes being added in 1976. The No. 2 is the only current regular production size left. Diplomáticos originally came in Semi Boite Nature (SBN) boxes with Standard dress boxes being introduced in 1975. It was originally supposed to be a more affordable version of the popular Montecristo brand, mainly targeting the French market, but eventually caught it’s own popularity.

These mareva sized cigars – 5 1/8″ (129mm) x 42 ring gauge – are presented in tins of five and are the second of two products to be released by Habanos S.A under the ‘Linea Retro’ title, following on from the Romeo y Julieta Club Kings earlier in the year.
The retro metal tin, inspired by pocket cigar cases that were much in vogue in the 1970s, makes these new additions eminently portable and quite stylish. The original 1970’s cases are now much sought after by collectors around the world, fetching high prices at auction.
These cigars have been rolled to the distinct full-flavoured blend that has made Partagas such a favourite over the years and have been made “totalmente a mano con tripa larga”- totally handmade with long filler. All of the filler, binder and wrapper leaves used in making these cigars are harvested from the best tobacco-growing plantation in the Vuelta Abajo area in Pinar del Río, Cuba.
The Exquisito, 5" (126mm) x 33 ring gauge, was the favourite smoke of former El Laguito (the home factory for Cohiba) Director, Emilia Tamayo, the first woman ever to manage a Havana factory, and it is easy to see why. These slim cigars are full of classic Cohiba flavour and offer plenty of rich Cuban character.
The cigar wraps come in navy and green colour ways and features Ettinger’s signature London tan leather interior. Holding up to five generously sized Havana cigars, the wrap also includes a vented pouch for cigar accessories, a slot for a humidification pouch and a space for an AirTag. Available in racing green and navy blue.
Sir Winston Churchill was well known to enjoy Romeo y Julieta cigars and Hine Cognac. Although he will never have tried these two modern expressions, it is hoped he would approve. An hour of Churchillian indulgence.
